Full Detailed Epiphone Hummingbird Pro Review

It can be difficult to find a solid and dependable acoustic guitar. There is a lot of choice in the marketplace and you might not know exactly what to buy. It’s difficult to search through all the models when looking for an acoustic guitar. You have a lot of choices and confusion comes with that choice.

Epiphone is one brand you might want to consider. They make excellent electric guitars but they also make acoustic guitars as well. These instruments have a lot of features that you’re going to enjoy. The guitars come in at a reasonable price point so you won’t have to spend a fortune to own here. Here is my Epiphone Hummingbird Pro review which looks at this acoustic guitar.

I examined this guitar in the categories of tone, playability, hardware, and value. My Epiphone Hummingbird Pro review examines these categories in greater detail below.

Tones

The guitar has a solid tone that is dependable and reliable. It’s capable of producing different tones for most styles of music. Use the guitar to finger pick, play chords, strum, and play lead. It’s suitable for many guitar styles like country, rock, blues, jazz, and more. The tone the guitar produces is nice and clear. You can enhance the tone by plugging it into an acoustic amplifier and using it the preamp system. I was quite satisfied with the tone that this acoustic guitar is able to produce.

Playability

This guitar is easy to play. You will be able to play chords and strum without much difficulty. The neck is a D profile style neck which is comfortable for your hands. The guitar plays fine close to the headstock but suffers near the neck joint. This is because there is no cutaway. This feature is not common on the dreadnought style acoustic guitar. If you’re looking for an acoustic guitar for both rhythm and lead guitar this one isn’t going to be the best option. Past the 12th fret on the instrument, it’s much harder to play leads because you run out of room. This guitar is more for the rhythm player as it’s not as good for lead guitar work. It’s more of a guitar to sit back and do fingerpicking or to strum chords on.

Hardware

My Epiphone hummingbird Pro review looked at the hardware included with this instrument. The hardware is a highlight of this guitar because it has a preamp system. This system allows you to plug the guitar into an acoustic amplifier. There is a spare pick up as this is already installed. You plug your guitar cable into the input jack by the strap button. The preamp will take two 2032 batteries and changing the batteries is a simple operation.

The preamp has a master volume, tone control, and an equalizer. It’s always great to have an equalizer with your acoustic guitar. This type of setting opens up more tonal variations. You can move these buttons to shape the sound of your acoustic guitar with ease. There is also a button for dynamics which you can slide back and forth. This dynamics button can further shape your acoustic guitar sound. You also get a low battery indicator light so you know when to change the battery. The battery compartment is easy to access on the outside of the guitar. Many guitars have the battery pack inside and it’s very difficult to get to. you often have to detune the guitar to get inside and change the battery. I like the ease of using this preamp system. Everything is on the outside of the guitar and not crammed into the guitar body. Other hardware on this guitar includes two strap buttons and nickel tuning pegs. There is also a bridge with bridge pins to keep the strings in place.

Value

This instrument provides you an excellent value. The guitar is available for a modest price. You won’t be paying a whole lot of money to own this guitar. The preamp system gives you more sound options so you don’t have to buy other acoustic guitars. I was quite pleased with the Epiphone herringbone Pro. It’s well worth the price that you’re going to pay for it. It would have a little more value with a few extras such as a cutaway which would make it easier to hit higher frets.

Build and Finish

One nice thing about the Epiphone Hummingbird Pro is that it’s a unique guitar. You get a spruce top, mahogany body, and a mahogany neck. the wood used in the construction means the instrument has a solid build.  The finish is a unique, colorful burst design that stands out in the crowd. The guitar I received had no blemishes on the finish.

The hummingbird pickguard has a great look to it. This feature is what makes the guitar unique. It’s attractive and it catches the eye. If you want a unique design which will stand out, this guitar is the right choice.

Feel and Action

The Hummingbird Pro has a great feel to it. The neck on the instrument is smooth and the medium frets are easy to press down on. even for beginners that have not built up their calluses will, find the guitar to be quite playable. The guitar will work the best with lighter gauge strings if you are a beginner. The lighter gauge won’t press into your fingers as much and be easier to play. the action is standard out of the shop so there shouldn’t be much work needed. If you need to adjust it, see a guitar tech as acoustic action is harder to see than electric guitars.

Overall Sound

The guitar is capable of producing a wide range of sounds. If you want a pure acoustic guitar sound it can do that. If you want more of an electric acoustic sound use the preamp system and plug into an amplifier. It’s best used as a rhythm guitar and not a lead. The lack of cutaway makes it more difficult 4 lead guitar players. If you want a solid guitar for strumming or for finger-picking, this is a good choice. it has a loud and booming Acoustic sound. The notes on the instrument ring out well when you’re playing them. it doesn’t matter what style of music you want to play. If you need a dependable acoustic guitar this is the perfect instrument for you.

Who is the Epiphone Hummingbird Pro Guitar Suited For?

This guitar is ideal for beginners or intermediate players. It’s also a good choice if you want to plug your guitar into an amplifier. Advanced acoustic guitar players might want a little more in their guitar but this one still has a lot of value. It would make an excellent starter guitar for almost anyone. The best part is that you can use the preamp with an amplifier for more sound options. I found the preamp system to be easy to use when compared to other systems. If you don’t want a cumbersome preamp or electronics on board your acoustic guitar, this one is a solid choice.

Conclusion

We have reached the conclusion of my Epiphone Hummingbird Pro review. This acoustic guitar is a solid buy due to the features. You can play it both as a pure acoustic guitar or take advantage of the preamp system. I like the preamp on this guitar because it’s easy to use and set up with the batteries. You don’t have to fumble inside to change settings as you do with other preamps.

This guitar comes in at a moderate price point which makes it affordable for almost everyone. If you want an acoustic guitar that is not going to cost you a lot of cash, this guitar is one you should put on your radar.
